Icky and Iris

I have been meaning to write this posts for months! (sorry about that!) Icky and Iris were born on March 18th. They are Jazzmin and Freddy's babies, and have their personalities. They are so cute and very social! We sold Icky a few months ago to a good home.

We originally named him Ichabod. Then started calling him Icky and it stuck!

He is our first baby with colored ears.

I just realized that Jazzy and all her baby girls were named after flowers.

A few months ago Iris got her leg stuck between two boards. And had a very deep, thick cut. We took her to the vet and she had to wear a bandage for a quite a while.

She dragged her leg around, it was so sad.

On a beautiful spring morning, I took the babies and Jazzy out to eat dandelions.

“Twas the night before Christmas.”

She was born on Christmas eve around 4 o’clock... Brandy’s first calf. We took a vote at our family Christmas get together, and all the votes were to name her Noel. So our precious little calf was named Noel. She is 10 months old now and almost as big as her mom!

Here she is a about a week old! She was soo cute!

This is when she was “tamed,” not this way anymore!

She looks so MUCH like her mom!

“Why, Why, Why?!?!?!,” is a normal response when we tell people that we bought a donkey, and sometimes I ask myself that same exact question. The answer to that is, donkeys eat thistles. Our pasture is full of thistles and he is a cute addition to our little farm.

Harmony

On Nov. 15th, I had a even bigger SURPRISE!! I found a kid in the goat pen, which I thought was strange because I locked the babies with their mom in a stall the night before. I thought it was George at a quick look, but I noticed she was quite a bit smaller than George, then I noticed the white stripe down the face! Sure enough Flopsy gave birth sometime in the night OUTSIDE, which was a complete shock; Flopsy wasn’t due for another week, and her udder wasn’t filling out. I was worried that she wouldn’t have enough milk for Harmony. I was very fortunate that Francy still had colostrum. Soon enough her udder started filling out and she was able to feed her baby. I didn’t weigh her, but I believe she was around 7lbs.

Gotta love those ears!

On Nov. 7th I discovered a surprise in our barn! Francy had given birth to a baby boy. I rushed inside to tell my mom, she asked me, “do you think she is going to have another baby?” I quickly answered, “no, she has never had twins.” I went back outside to give Francy warm water and raisins, and what did I find?!? Another baby, this time a girl. I laughed at myself for answering so quickly about her never having twins! We decided George and Gracie after the George Burns and Gracie Allen show. George weighed 7.5lbs and Gracie weighed 5.75lbs.

A very protective mommy is always watching her babies.

They are always nibbling on something. ;)

We have grown from 2 kids to 7 kids since I last posted the end of January.

Flicka had a set of twins on January 27th at 8:45a.m; a girl named CoCo and a boy named Charlie. They both weighed 7.5lbs.

Jazzmin had a set of twins (big surprise!) on February 6th at 2:00p.m; Dandy and Daisy both girls. Dandy weighed 6.35lbs. and Daisy weighed 7.25lbs.

The Biggest for last! Valentina gave birth to a 9lb. boy on February 11th at 12:25p.m. His name is Edward Timothy. Eddy for short.

Aubree will be 2 months in 1 day and Bella will be 2 months in 4 days.

The Esping farm is proud to introduce our newest “kids,” Aubree and Bella. Flopsy’s baby, Aubree, was born on Jan. 13th at 1:09p.m. she weighs 7 lbs. Mother and baby are doing great!

CDF's Christmas Tea and Cookie Exchange!

On the afternoon of December 18^th 2009 our church ladies from Coram Deo Fellowship experienced the first annual ladies Christmas tea and cookie exchange. Marilyn McCoy graciously hosted this fun event. After the cookies were distributed on the cookie counter, we sat around the beautiful decorated table as Marilyn shared about proper tea etiquette. Then we enjoyed a freshly steeped pot of green tea as we delighted in sampling festive goodies Marilyn had made in addition to the Christmas cookies we all had brought. The festive goodies included Lemon Curd, two different types of Scones, Zucchini rolls, Pecan Tassies, and Shortbread. Another tasty hors d'œuvre was the chicken salad tea sandwiches made by my mother. We also enjoyed sharing Christmas memories, favorite Christmas recipes and heartwarming fellowship. The memories of the flavorful treats and sweet conversation will have will have to linger long until we meet again for the same celebration next year.

Sorry, I haven’t written in awhile. I seem to always start my posts with sorry. But, I think it is time to post some farm photos!

Update info:

Cats – we have one new kitten born on 10-20-09, Ashley is the mother. I will have pictures soon!

Chickens – We have meat chickens again, this time they are non genetically altered chickens - White Rocks. They will be ready to butcher at 16 wks. And we have more Cornish Cross Rocks.

Cows – Sad news for Leo, he was butchered :( Good news for us he is in our freezer now… Brandy is doing goods she stays closer to the goats!

Dogs – Jack is growing!

Goats – All 5 females (Flicka, Francy, Flopsy, Valentina & Jazzmin)are pregnant! We will be having new baby goats in January – February! We are not getting much milk now. But we will have plenty in march!!!

More Jack!

Here’s a little update on Jack! He will be 6 months at the end of September!! He now weighs 25-30 lbs. And is 15in. tall at his shoulders; he is about to out grow his parents!!! We have been taking him to puppy kindergarten!!! HE LOVES IT!!! If you have a puppy, I would recommend finding a kennel club close to you and enroll him/her in puppy kindergarten!!! This training involves a great socialization time as well as obedience training and play time!! What else would a puppy rather do??? This last Monday was Labor day so instead of having class, our instructor invited us and our puppies to visit the nursing home where she works. Jack is very good with older people! My instructor mentioned that Jack might be a good “therapy” dog! He gave lots of “kisses” to these older people! The older folks loved the way he looks! Okay, I’ll stop talking and let you see some pictures!!!

Hello,

I have so much to write! So much has happened since I last wrote! The most importantly, we have a new Puppy!!! He is a Miniature Australian Shepherd! He is a blue merle with 2 blue eyes!!! His name is Captain Jack; he looks like a pirate with a blackish-colored patch on the left side of his face! He has a personality of a loyal Golden Retriever! Here are some pictures!

These first three pictures were taken before we bought him: when we were just in the “thinking about him” stage.

This is one of his first pictures after we brought him home.

We had one kitten born on Saint Patrick’s day!! We don’t have a name for him yet! We already know where he is going to live when he his 6 weeks old. Ashley is the mother and is the same mother of those fluffy kittens. He is really cute!! Here are some pictures!

Sorry I havent Written in a while! Friday morning our 255 Chicks came to the Post office! We ordered 15 Araucana, 25 Barred Rocks and 215 Cornish Cross Rock aka Meat Chickens!! They are Cute now! Just wait!!! Ok, here are some Pictures!

The yellow ones are meat, the black and little bit of yellow are Barred Rocks and the other striped ones are Araucanas!

Iam sure some of your are wondering why I named Szilard, Szilard! The reason is my dad Suggested it! He is reading a book called " The Making of The Atomic Bomb" The first half of the 700 hundred page book is just names of the people who helped make the Bomb! And my dad found Szilard a very intresting name. He asked me to name a boy goat Szilard, so I did! Here is a little info about Leó Szilárd! "In 1933 Szilárd fled to London to escape Nazi persecution, where he read an article written by Ernest Rutherford in The Times which rejected the possibility of using atomic energy for practical purposes. Although nuclear fission had not yet been discovered, Szilárd was reportedly so annoyed at this dismissal that he conceived of the idea of the nuclear chain reaction while walking to work at St Bartholomew's Hospital waiting for traffic lights to change on Southampton Row in Bloomsbury, though his friend Jacob Bronowski notes that he never knew Szilárd to wait for traffic lights. The following year he filed for a patent on the concept. Szilárd first attempted to create a chain reaction using beryllium and indium, but these elements did not produce a chain reaction. In 1936, he assigned the chain-reaction patent to the British Admiralty to ensure its secrecy (GB patent 630726). Szilárd also was the co-holder, with Nobel Laureate Enrico Fermi, of the patent on the nuclear reactor (U.S. Patent 2,708,656 ). In 1938 Szilárd accepted an offer to conduct research at Columbia University in Manhattan, and moved to New York, and was soon joined by Fermi. After learning about nuclear fission in 1939, they concluded that uranium would be the element capable of sustaining a chain reaction. Szilárd and Fermi conducted a simple experiment at Columbia and discovered significant neutron multiplication in uranium, proving that the chain reaction was possible and opening the way to nuclear weapons. Szilárd later described the event: "We turned the switch, saw the flashes, watched for ten minutes, then switched everything off and went home. That night I knew the world was headed for sorrow". At around that time the Germans and others were in a race to produce a nuclear chain reaction. German attempts to control the chain reaction sought to do so using graphite, but these attempts proved unsuccessful. Szilárd realized graphite was indeed perfect for controlling chain reactions, just as the Germans had determined, but that the method of producing graphite used boron carbide rods, and the minute amount of boron impurities in the manufactured graphite was enough to stop the chain reaction. Szilárd had graphite manufacturers produce boron-free graphite. As a result, the first human-controlled chain reaction occurred on 2 December 1942."

Friday afternoon Flicka gave birth to the last babies of spring 2009! She gave birth to two kids, a boy and a girl! We are so glad she had a little Black girl (carly); weighing 5 1/2 lbs. Hello,

Wednesday morning francy gave birth to a very healthy baby girl! Jazzmin! Francy wont let her nurse! So we have to hold her down every 2-4 hours just to let the baby nurse!!!

Update on Valentine baby!

Hello,

This is an Update on our Valentine baby! Today I brought her inside to weigh her she has gained 3/4 of a pound! She now weighs 7 1/4 pounds! We let her play a round for little bit, she loves to twirl around and try to jump :)! I couldn’t find the camera! Darn! But next I'll have the camera out, before I bring her in! If you bring a very young baby goat inside you can’t keep them in long as the mothers can get very worried! We kept her inside for about 5 minutes! Flopsy was SCREAMING when I brought her baby out, but was comforted when she saw her baby. We have a happy mommy goat and a happy baby goat!

Hello,

Here is Mollis amusing farm animals news report!

Cats - Not much to say about these little scruffy creatures here on the Farm. Munssy went on his 3rd road trip to MO! The barn cats caught 4 mice last week!

Cows - ALWAYS MOOING FOR GRAIN! Leo is about 600 pounds! Brandy is one big Fluff ball!

Chickens - The chickens are fat, fluffy and healthy!

Dog - We only have one dog now, Shadow! :( Little Bree got hit 2 days before thanksgiving. Shadow is pretty lonely!

Goats - The F, F and F are getting fatter!! Brownie got a new 10 feet long shelter!!

Hello People,

I am sorry I haven’t written in a long time. Back in October, October 18th to be exact, I had some friends over to help me clean up the loft. While cleaning the loft we kept hearing a kitten screaming. We thought one of the older kittens was lost. But after an hour or so I went to have a look. When I came to the last stall there was a little straw nest and in it was a little gray and white kitten he barely had his eyes open! I knew immediately that it was Wild Cats (we call her that because she is wild and we never had a name for her)! I looked up in the manger in that stall and in it was another gray and white kitten just the like the first one. I looked a little closer and it wasn’t breathing I felt terrible how long was the other one without food? Is he next to die? Where is wild cat? All these things were going through my head. I decided I would wait for a while see if his mom would come back. About 2 hours later we were done in the loft. I went to check if wild cat was back for the kitty, but no he was curled up sleeping in the same spot. We needed to go to a soup dinner in town and after that a friend’s birthday party. So when I got home I hurried to the barn to check on the kitty. He was a wake and crying again. This was it I picked him up and hurried in I put him in a box with a heating pad he was screaming really loud now! I quickly made Kitten glop warmed it and gave him it to him with a syringe. He was calm after that and took a long nap. I went to bed and my mom willing gave him a bottle every 2 hours. Not until he was 3 weeks old we finally had a name for him Munster! We called him that because he would get so mad at his bottle he would starting batting it with his paws which reminded us of Herman of the Munster’s. Here are some other names we came up with: Burrito Bob, Pita Pete, Sancho Sam and Smudge! A couple day's later I was in the barn doing my chores and there by the cat food sat Wild cat! And she looked like she was stilling being nursed on! Then I heard a little meow! I went around the corner and there next to a lot of feed sacks were 2 fat, well nursed, adorable girl kittens! I couldn't believe it why would she abandon munssy? O well we have one happy very playful kitty! He is always getting it to some kind of trouble! Here are some pictures of munssy and his sisters!

Iam very sorry I have not written in a while I been pretty busy with school lately. Well I have four goats 1 Billy goat - Brownie and 3-Female goats - Flika,Francy and Flopsy. We got Brownie and Flika in 2007 when they where just babies then they had babies in February of this year, next February hopefully they will have grandchildren :). We put Brownie and Flika in the same pen again sooooo hopefully we will have cute little babies this coming spring and we put Flobsy and Francy in with a the billy goat Dominoes we borrowed from a friend. This is a post about my pupperdoodles (dogs)!! I have 2 dogs; Shadow is an Australian Shepherd mix-mutt who is the sweetest, nicest, and most loyal dog ever. Then there is Little Bree, an American Eskimo/Border Collie mix, who is sweet some times and wild other times. She likes jumping on little kids. Hope you like the pictures!!!

This post is about my Cows! I have one 1 Jersey 7month old steer and 1 Hereford 4month old Heifer. Leo (steer) has horns and he has hurt me once but got a good slap on the nose he is very very playful! Brandy (heifer) on the other hand is the total opposite she is very shy, doesent have horns, doesent get very close to me. They where both bottle fed. Here some pictures of Leo and Brandy!!
